The Fathomless Mastery
After completing the cover to "Unblessing the Purity", Bloodbath asked me to do the cover to their LP, "The Fathomless Mastery". The band wanted miserable, dying humans in a dry desert-like location. Faces were to be expressing extreme despair and fear. It was also important to have a strong biblical vibe.. The shadow to the right, which is the dogpriest from the EP's cover, was also part of their original concept.
The primary reference I used for the anatomy of the people were Holocaust victims, the poverty stricken, anorexics, and people dying from various illnesses. It was very difficult reference to look at, but I think it helped the overall look and accuracy of the painting. I chose to have very little clothing on the people to accentuate the details of just how starved and diseased they are.
